One step closer to Florida ....

26 July 2011, 58 miles

The scenery remained the same today as yesterday, no dramatic changes as we got closer to the Georgia border. It was another wet and grey day. Pine forests primarily lined the sides of the roads, permeating the air with their scent. Much of the area we passed through today was logged periodically, though we saw no big holes in the forest. Occasionally an entire row of trees would be missing, reduced to splinters or woodchips, and as often as not the traffic passing us was a loaded log truck. These drivers were amazingly considerate. Everyone of them would pull into the other lane to go around us, even slowing and waiting for oncoming traffic to pass. Oftentimes, if there was consistent traffic coming from the other direction we would pull off into the grass so the trucks could pass. They wouldn't ever attempt to squeeze between us and the other traffic.

We passed through many small towns, most just a smattering of homes set back from the street, dogs barking from behind fences as we passed.

We biked through Givhans Ferry State Park, and over a shallow river with a sandy bottom. We seem to like our river stops for photos :)

Another gray day, but we were very happy not to be out in the baking sun, so we had no complaints!

We arrived in Walterboro in the late afternoon, staying at a very cheap and very nice Royal Inn. We talked about food for the last hour of our ride today and were very happy to make ourselves a Mountain House Meal and consume it while sitting on our bed. These dehydrated meals are amazingly tasty. We had a meat lasagna. Desert was a yummy blizzard from Dairy Queen before we headed back to our hotel to fall asleep!

Location:Moncks Corner, SC to Walterboro, SC
